Cristo Rey Network awards $138,000 in grant funding to CRBR

The Cristo Rey Network announced Cristo Rey Baton Rouge Franciscan High School as recipients of three grant awards for the 2019-2020 school year focused on retaining students, creating opportunities for increased enrollment and supporting our alumni advisor position. 

Cristo Rey Baton Rouge begins the 2019-2020 school year with 174 students in grades 9-12.  In May, the Class of 2020 will be the first graduating class in the history of the school.  Students will earn over $1.2 million toward their tuition this school year with the support and partnership of 48 Corporate Work Study Partners (CWSP) and 5 CWSP sponsors throughout the greater Baton Rouge area.

A busy fall continues at Cristo Rey!  We have some important events coming up in October, including our Feast of St. Francis celebration on October 4,  FAFSA Night on October 8 and Open House on October 24. Important Cafeteria Information for 2019-2020 School Year

ALL families must complete the application for free/reduced lunch to be able to participate in our school breakfast and lunch program for the 2019-2020 school year.  Please complete the online application HERE before August 19th.  When prompted, enter "70805" for the zip code and choose "Diocese of Baton Rouge Child Nutrition Program".

Academy Award Winner Hannah Beachler Visits Cristo Rey Baton Rouge

On Monday, April 29, our Cristo Rey faculty and students experienced a visit from the Academy Award-winning production designer, Hannah Beachler. Ms. Beachler made history this year as the first African American to win the Oscar for production design for the beloved film Black Panther. Her other credits as production designer include Fruitvale Station, Creed, Beyonce’s Lemonade, and Moonlight. Ms. Beachler spoke to our students about pursuing dreams, maintaining self-motivation, and sustaining an extremely hard work ethic to achieve the impossible.

Cristo Rey Young Entrepreneur Awarded Seed Funding

Congratulations to CRBR 10th grader Chelsea Buckley for receiving seed money for creating a business through the Young Entrepreneurs Academy of Baton Rouge (YEA BR).

Through the YEA BR, students meet weekly to work with local entrepreneurs and business school instructors at LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business to create a business plan, pitch their idea to investors for seed funding, register their businesses with the Secretary of State’s office, work with graphic designers for logos/branding, and create pop-up businesses in Baton Rouge’s Ebb and Flow Festival.

Two Cristo Rey Students Selected as LPB Young Heroes

On February 15, Louisiana Public Broadcasting announced the 2019 Young Heroes class, choosing two of the eight honorees from Cristo Rey Baton Rouge Franciscan High School. Jamone Williams, a junior and Ryan Smith, a freshman, were selected for this prestigious honor from among applications state-wide.  Jamone and Ryan will be honored with the other LPB Young Hero recipients on April 15.

Let's Welcome Our New President, Mr. Eric Engemann!

Cristo Rey Baton Rouge Franciscan High has named as its new president the head of a nonprofit group that helps host sports events throughout the region.  Eric Engemann, of SportsBR, Inc., is the third leader of this unique Catholic school, which opened in 2016 on the site of the former Redemptorist High School in north Baton Rouge.  Read more from The Advocate.
